We run two levels of Patchwork & Quilting workshop - Beginners and Intermediate. Intermediate: You have done some patchwork before, or maybe attended a Beginners workshop. You know the basic skills i.e. how to use a rotary cutter, how to sew accurate seams and match points. If that's you then an intermediate workshop is right for you. However, if none of the above applies to you but you've done dressmaking then the Beginners workshop is for you. And, of course, if you have no sewing experience then you will need the Beginners workshop. If you need further clarification please contact us and we'll help steer you to the most appropriate course for you.

Alison Batchelor
I started my first patchwork in 1973, when this age-old craft was increasing in popularity. Since then I have designed and produced innumerable pieces and continue to sew on a daily basis. I have City & Guilds in Patchwork & Quilting and Adult Teaching qualifications and have been teaching for over 12 years at both beginner and more advanced levels. I am delighted to be leading this workshop at Tig's Barn and hope to see you on one of my courses. Once you have learned the basic techniques of Patchwork & Quilting, whether on our beginners course or elsewhere, you will be ready for more advanced skills. There are so many different areas of this wonderful craft to learn about from the earliest paper piecing to the complex precision piecing and free motion quilting. Please bring your sewing machine, making sure it is in good working order and you have the instruction book. You will need a 1/4" foot, a Walking Foot and an Open Toe embroidery foot (for the free motion quilting). By the end of the workshop you will have sufficient knowledge and practical experience of complex techniques to progress with more advanced projects of your own.
